When is PNG the right image format?
PNG is a lossless raster image format and supports alpha transparency. It is widely used for screenshots, interface graphics, logos, illustrations, and images that need clean edges.
For photographic images, PNG files can be much larger than JPG or WebP because PNG does not use the same kind of lossy photo compression.
Choose PNG when preserving decoded pixels or transparency matters more than minimizing file size. Choose JPG for broad photo compatibility, or WebP for many modern web-delivery workflows.
If you need a smaller file after conversion, continue with Compress Image. To browse every supported format, return to Image Converter.

PNG converter FAQ
Does PNG support transparency?
Yes. PNG supports alpha transparency and is commonly used when transparent backgrounds are required.
Is PNG lossless?
Yes. PNG uses lossless compression for its stored pixel data.
Why can PNG files be large?
Photographs contain complex pixel information, and lossless PNG compression often produces much larger files than lossy photo formats.
Are files uploaded to FileOnTap?
No. The supported PNG conversion tools process images locally in your browser.
